1/6 Scale Deadpool Movie Masterpiece Figure Review & Images

Jay Cochran - September 04, 2016
ShartimusPrime takes a look at the new 1/6 Scale Deadpool Movie Masterpiece figure from Hot Toys.

"Deadpool . . . CAPTAIN Deadpool. Okay, just Deadpool." Yes, I finally have a Hot Toys Deadpool figure in my hands. Deadpool's popularity has grown higher than ever with the 2016 film release, and now we have the only film product out at the moment with the Hot Toys Deadpool Movie Masterpiece MMS 347 1:6 Collectible Figure. So let's see if this piece of pleathery, pleasurable, hunk of plastic is worth $234.99 + shipping.

Maximum Effort
As always, Hot Toys is pretty clever with their packaging design, and it looks like they put in a little extra effort into this. The front of the package has my favorite movie Deadpool facial expression, and then there's bullet holes in the slip cover along with little Deadpool's peppered throughout all sides of the box. We get a cool photo of what looks like Ryan Reynolds in the Deadpool costume holding the Hot Toys Deadpool box. A little fourth breaking couldn't be more appropriate.

Time To Break Out the Chimi-#$%^ing-Changas
A character like Deadpool could use countless accessories: chimichangas, baby unicorn, tiny left hand, a flipping off Colossus hand, lotion, crayola art-piece by Deadpool himself, an interchangeable Wade Wilson head; and none of these are included. Believe it or not, this is not a complaint. Even though the figure comes with not one of those items listed above, he comes with what I think are the perfect amount of accessories: 12 interchangeable hands, 2 katanas (made with real metal), 2 desert eagles (with cocking function and removable clips), 2 spade-shaped daggers, 1 knife, a dynamic posing stand with base, 5 pairs of interchangeable eyes, a magnet for the eyes, and extra wrist pegs and collar clips. It's worth mentioning that the katana sheathes conveniently connect to the back of the figure via magnet.

Be careful switching out the hands. My biggest concern with this figure is that the cuffs around the wrists gets worn very easy. The first layer of fabric and paint has already come off during the course of shooting the review. I did get my hands on an early copy, so hopefully by the time this is released in the US, we'll see this remedied by Hot Toys one way or another. When it comes to switching the eyes, it can be a little tricky making sure that they're placed in there properly. The eyes are held in with magnets and you have to use the included magnet tool to remove them. I really wish the most wide opened eyes were wider, and the squitiest eyes were squint-y-er? Are those actual words? Nope, but who cares?! Nobody reads in 2016 anyway.

Right Up Main Street!
What I really love about this figure is the details! This Deadpool is littered with battle damage, and it's executed very well. It's hard to describe the material used for this suit, so I'll just continue to use the term "pleathery material". There are parts of the pleathery material that are smooth, and other parts that are textured with a fine cross hatching pattern. The material is (typically for Hot Toys) a little on the fragile side with at least 3 stitches very slightly already coming out. The directions say not to move the shoulders or hips outward past 45 degrees, so don't be a dum-dum like me, and go follow the directions! The head sculpt is all plastic. It's sculpted very well with the same cross hatching the rest of the red on the figure has, and it is also painted very well. The paint is actually quite spectacular. It looks like he's been through a lot of battle (which he has), and it appears that the only part of the figure without detailed paint applications are the black sections on the sides of his torso. They even painted the bottom of the boots!

Go, Go, Go, Go, Go . . .
The way the fabric works with the buck of this figure is impressive. There's a lot of articulation that makes it a lot of fun to pose. You can get lost in an endless void of photo taking with this piece. The head is attached to the torso via neck joint, and there is no independent head articulation. This is my only gripe with the articulation, really. He can still look up some, down much further, side-to-side, and pivot. He has the butterfly joints at the shoulders, his arms move outward no more than 45 degrees from the figure, he rotates at the bicep, double jointed elbows, and wrist movement . . . which is difficult without trying to fix the wrist problem. He has a diaphragm joint and waist joint with full crunching, turning, and pivoting motion for each of those. Hips move outward no more than 45 degrees, he has upper thigh rotation, double jointed knees, and the ankles are double ball jointed with up and down movement, side-to-side, and dynamic ankle pivot!

Go On, Get Out of Here . .
In conclusion, I think this is a very fun figure! Complaints? Yup. Problems? Of course, or else why would I complain? But the fact of the matter is, is that the figure simply looks awesome and it is fun to pose! It does stand a little on the tall side for a Hot Toy though, measuring closer to 13 inches rather than 12. This doesn't bother me much, but it is a little irksome posing him with other Hot Toys. The rapid rate of wear and tear on the wrists is definitely the most unsettling part of the figure. It makes me not want to switch the wrists out at all. I had spent 20 minutes using hot and cold water to stretch all 12 wrists. This was not fun, and really only helped a little bit. So yes, even with all that complaining, I still recommend the figure. I love posing action figures, and the wonderful articulation on this piece sets the fun-factor to maximum levels!
