A New Diamond Select Toys Marvel Q&A

A New Diamond Select Toys Marvel Q&A

Jay Cochran - February 15, 2011
DSTChuck has released a new Diamond Select Toys Q&A over on their Art Asylum website for your viewing pleasure.

In this weeks edition focuses on Marvel questions. Check out the entire Q&A below:

Chris Harden
Have you guys ever thought of doing a Marvel Select spin off wave like X-men and a fan poll of which character fans would like to see

DSTChuck: Chris, we’ve done a good bit of research with fans and retailers and we’ve come to the conclusion that 9 figures per year is about right at that price point. That’s a good bit of the reason we have been limiting the movie sub lines to two per movie.

Julian Keller
We’ve seen/read about what’s coming for Thor and Captain America…what can you show/tell us about X-Men First Class? Marvel Select figures? Busts? Statues?

DSTChuck: Sorry, with the accelerated timeline they had for the movie the only product possible for us was Minimates, but we’re flattered and honored to be working on our third X-men movie with Fox and Marvel!

Abayomi Allen
Love Marvel Select Red Hulk, Green Hulk, and Ultimate Hulk, but when can we get some love for the females. I would love to see these come out soon: She-Hulk(should have been part of the “Best Of”), Lyra Savage She-Hulk, and Red She-Hulk. And why we are talking Hulks will we ever see A-Bomb, Skaar, and Korg in Marvel Select

DSTChuck: We already did a She-Hulk figure and while I thought it looked pretty cool the sales were a little soft. That said, we’ve never shied away from female figures with this line and in the next batch of four we announce you will see a female hero.

Mr Articulate
Hey Chuck, Marvel Select Juggernaut appears to be a GRAND SLAM Homerun! Over on the Fwoosh boards he generated 24 pages of posts in only two days! We’ve seen Movie Thor & Loki, and we await photos of Movie Cap and Red Skull, but please don’t abandon the classic comic style for the rest of the year! The only other announced figure for 2011 is Gambit in March, and that seems to be a change as you traditionally promote your figures 12 months out (and movie figures about 5 months in advance). What can we look forward to for the rest of 2011 or 2012? We’re all hoping for classic versions of Titanium Man, Iron Monger, Onslaught or Lockjaw. Perhaps you have a new Modok with AIM goons?

DSTChuck: So glad fans like him! Our project manager over at Gentle Giant was bugging us for a year to let him sculpt that one! I guess he was right (that’s a first).

No no we’re not forgetting the MU, as I said that’s why we limit the movies to two per movie even though there would have been a ton more we could have done from IM2. That said with two Marvel movies taking up 4 figures that leaves us only 5 more releases for the main line. We’re wrapping up Skull and Cap now as well as a special project and then its right back to sculpting some more MU figures.

Will you make a blakes 7 liberator space ship from the hit 70s bbc 1 show

DSTChuck:
I don’t think we have ever considered that.

Pete Kingsman
Hello Art Asylum, Just wondering how things are going with the Ultimate Quarter Scale Deadpool? Diamond’s site says it’s still Preorder, but gives the date as having been in January (I think, I get unsure of US date formats at times). I’m mainly curious as the seller I pre-ordered it from seems to have pulled it from it’s website, after delaying the release a few times (Play UK if it matters, as I can’t order direct from Diamond due to my nationality). Has this awesome product been shelved, delayed, or something altogether more sinister. Thanks for your time, Pete

DSTChuck: WOW Pete I am sorry but we had to cancel the UQS Marvel line. We could just not lower the cost to where the SRP was what we thought would work, even with removing the sounds. That should not be up for order anymore.

Tyler Copes
Hey! I collect Marvel Select figures and display the boxes along my wall and everyone who walks in my room is impressed. From my little 6 year old cousin to my friends who have zero interests in comics/toys to my grandmother. I have to say they’re pretty cool. But now to the real question. I have a good number of figures but I want to get a few I missed. Are you planning to re-release any of the older figures like “Ultimate Iron Man” or “Ultimate Venom”? And one more question, well request, can you please make a Steve Rogers Captain America? Thanks for your time. Keep making great products!

DSTChuck: Glad you like the package- we’ve taken some flack for it and for the “book spine” look but that’s how I display them in more office as well. Yes Tyler we do release a best of assortment every year and Ultimate IM has been in there so there is every chance you will see those figures again at some point.

Chris Harden
Since Marvel is doing CrossGen do you have or going to have rights to CrossGen? that would be epic CrossGen selects

DSTChuck: I don’t think so, the Marvel license is very specific and I doubt it covers that but to be honest we have not asked yet.
