'Deadpool' Movie In The Works At Fox

'Deadpool' Movie In The Works At Fox

Outsiders - May 05, 2009
Fresh off the muscular performance of "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" at the boxoffice, Fox has thrown into development a spinoff featuring Deadpool, the wise-cracking mercenary played in the film by Ryan Reynolds.

Reynolds is attached to reprise the character for what for now is simply being called "Deadpool." Lauren Shuler Donner and Marvel Studios would act as producers.

Deadpool is known as "the merc with a mouth," a character that under Reynolds lived up to his billing in "Wolverine". The movie would go back to the roots of the character known for his slapstick tone and propensity to break the fourth wall.

The project is out to writers.

yeah i bet it will be released right after silver surfer the movie. remember what fox said. writers are hired and the movie will be huge and in the end, nothing. i dont know but i feel that it will not happen but thats me. when they are begining to shoot then i believe it.

Silver Surfer was just fan talk. This is actually confirmed by the studios, think about it, they having been trying to make a Deadpool with Reynolds even before Blade 3.

no it isnt (link)

you believe in IMDB? :spidey_report_post:

All right, I finally saw the scene after the credits. Damn, it still looks like fox screwed the pooch a bit, almost like a Deadpool movie wasn't even under consideration at the time. Seems like they're gonna have to do a whole lotta creative back tracking.

One thing I do agree is Reynold's typical wise ass type cast is perfect for DP.

Reynolds was awesome as Wilson and Im sure he can do it even crazier as Deadpool.

He loses all of his powers and gets super scazy in the "assylum" after the Weapon X program was a bust for him. He will finally excape that and become the Deadpool he is today. Atleast thats how the books go.

The last seen in wolverine proves it is the real deadpool, his mouth is now open,so he will be able to talk, and the mask will come in to hide his disfigurement. It works out fine.

and what about all his power how will that work out?

Well i'm assuming that since the closed mouth thing was reversed in the fall,it would only make sence that he lost all the extra powers as well. Another option would be to say that he eventually looses the powers because the process used to transfer the powers is unstable therefore not permanent.

There is a few options to make it work.

i think it will take place after the fight on 3 mile island. anyone who stayed after the credits knows what i mean.

i would explain plot possibilities but could be spoilerz for anyone who didnt stay.

that said, during the deadpool movie i expect at least 4 major wade moments:

- chimichanga!

- channel surfing in boxers

- 4th wall stuff (ie: "splortz", conversations in his head, not shutting up, etc...)

- last but not least, BEA ARTHUR!

even a dedication after the credits? moment of silence, mid-film? this could be like the andy kaufman of marvel movies. hilarious, if you know how wade rolls.

my hopes are high... i just hope they (we?) arent let down.

Agreed.

This would have been good as a stand alone project if he hadn't been in the Wolverine movie, but since he was, Fox kinda painted themselves into a corner buy screwing him up so badly. The rumor was that this was actually supposed to be Omega Red but they decided to tie the end of the story back to a character from Wolverines past, leaving Omega Red to be used for a possible sequel.

First off, there's only going to be a very small window of time for them to portray him as the Deadpool we all know and love. In order to do that he would have had to leave the Weapon X program shortly after Wolverine, endure the circumstances that scarred his body, create and operate for some time under his costumed persona, and then eventually return to the Weapon X program to become the multi-powered mouthless freak he became in the movie.

They could however remedy everything by revealing that the real Wade left the program after he became ill, and assuming he would die, they cloned him to create the creature at the end of Wolverine (opening a door for Mr. Sinster). After all Sabretooth did say "Wade's not here anymore", meaning he could be dead or gone. Even when Wolverine asked if he was Wade, he had no mouth to answer with.

Knowing Fox though they won't put in the work or effort to create a story to fit in that time frame and they'll end up doing some sort of prequel meaning he'll still be "Pretty Boy Deadpool" and most likely not wear his now iconic costume. If he wears a costume at all they'll only "modernize" it even though he's already a fairly modern character, and he'll end up looking something like Grifter from the Wildcats.

Most likely they'll just do what they did in the Punisher movies and put him in leather pants and a trench coat, essentially turning it into another of numerous lame shoot 'em up movies that are already clogging up the box office.

I could be wrong, but I doubt it and there are two things for certain that have to happen to make the movie a hit. First, make sure they have a great director. Right now Bryan Singer, Sam Raimi and Jon Favreau are the only ones worthy or a Marvel project at this point, and whatever they do, Fox needs to make damn sure they keep Brett Ratner and Kevin Smith as far the hell away from the project as possible. Secondly they just need to not over cast the thing. Keep it simple, not every character has to be a well established actor.

Leave all the Nick Cages and Ben Afflecks for the chick flicks and save some money for special effects. There are plenty of up and comming actors that can do a fair job, plus getting some young blood in there would leave many years open for spin offs in the future. Hugh Jackman wasn't a huge name until X-Men and even though he's still pretty young by Hollywood standards, he's only got a few more years where he'll be able to portray an almost ageless superhero.
